Not Enough Donors

The search and wait continues for all those people that need an organ and tissue donation. Not enough people have the desire to think on what is going to happen with their bodies after death. The question is! are you an organ and tissue donor? The hope to find compatible donors for all the patients is little. Most of these patients rely on hope through their church or religion and refuse to look for donor transplants. Statistics show little hope to all the patients waiting for an organ and tissue transplant, but this can change if we do our part of becoming a donor. People should be willing to donate their organs.

According to the D.M.V. website there are not enough organ and tissue donors in California. Thousands of Californians wait for a second chance at life. To become a donor is easier than ever thanks to the technology. Just stop to the nearest DMV or sign up through the internet. If you are at least 18 years of age, you may designate on your driver license or ID card that you wish to become a donor. If you wish to participate in the gift of life program the DMV provides you with a donor card and a sticker to be placed on your driver license or ID card. This pink sticker is an important symbol of your intent of donating organs and tissue after you die. This will save many lives including your loved ones. Donations cost you and your family nothing. About 20% of the people waiting for an organ transplant are Californian(D.M.V).

While the organ and tissue demands increase, the evidence of not enough organs is noticeable. Organ transplants include heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, and small intestine. Example tissues to help save a life include eyes corneas, heart valves, bones, and skin. By donating organs one could save eight people and your tissue donation will enhance of another 50 people. Of those waiting, one out of three people will die due to lack of organs according to the (D.M.V).

Many religions are the reason why people refuse organ and tissue transplants. For example the Jewish faith not mentioning others. We all hope to live a happy long life, but sometimes our own choices keep us far from our wish. In California all religions are respected and everyone has the free choice to follow the religion of their best interest. All major religions support or permit organ and tissue donations such as Catholics. It is hard for others like me to understand how someone can refuse help when needed because of the religion they chose to follow.

The fact is the longer we take to become donors, the less chances to live for most of the people waiting for an organ or tissue transplant. This does not only affect adults, but innocent children. Talk to your loved ones about your plans when becoming an organ and tissue donor. Follow God as wished, but give a second chance to those who needs it. Consider the possibility that someone in our family will need an organ. This is why we should be willing to donate.

Alcohol vs. Marijuana

Alcohol and marijuana are both alike in many ways. In the next few paragraphs explain why I believe they are. At the end of this reading you should find the comparisons very intriguing. Alcohol is more harmful than marijuana according to the facts given in (wikipedia).

Marijuana is far less addictive then alcohol based on the rate of dependence. It is much harder for one person to withdrawal from alcohol than marijuana. Deaths from the two substances are completely opposite. There are hundreds of alcohol overdose deaths each year, yet there has never been a marijuana overdose death in our history. The amount a person consumes in alcohol is also a direct cause to the tens of thousands of deaths the U.S. has each year.

Alcohol is one of the most toxic drugs and using just 10 times what one would use to get the desired effect leads to death. Marijuana is one of the least toxic drugs, requiring thousand times the dose one would use to get the desired effect to lead to death. Now the dose for marijuana may be more then a thousand times no one really knows since there has never been a marijuana overdose.

Long-term effect of alcohol or marijuana is different in its results.Long-term
marijuana use is far less harmful than long term alcohol use. There is little to dispute this statement, however, that long term marijuana use causes permanent cognitive impairment. There is also no clear cause and effect relationship to explain the psychosocial associations that accompany the use of marijuana. There are some physical health risks that are possible chances you could damage the airways in a marijuana smoker. The long term effect of alcohol can cause kidney failure as well as blindness and death. There has never been a case of lung cancer from someone who used marijuana only those who smoke cigars and cigarettes. Marijuana has not been associated with any type of cancer. However the same can not be said about alcohol. Alcohol has been found to contribute to many long-term negative health problems. These include cancers and cirrhosis of the liver.

In many other studies alcohol has been linked to contribute to domestic violence and sexual assault and marijuana use does not. Not to mention that alcohol use increases the chance of aggressive behavior and acts of violence whereas marijuana use reduces violent behavior. Marijuana affects the body much differently then alcohol does. Aside from the change in perception and most notably, mood, the most common short- term physical and neurological effects include increased heart rate, lowered blood pressure, impairment of episodic memory, working memory, psychomotor coordination, and concentration. When alcohol has been used the effects are similar in some ways. To much consumption of alcohol leads to drunkenness, this leads to hangovers. Depending on the amount of alcohol consumed, it could cause acute respiratory failure or death, impair judgment, cause reckless or irresponsible behavior. When it’s all said and done alcohol is a drug and marijuana is too.

Discrimination

Negative life experiences mark you for life! I tend to remember the negative ones than the good ones. Have you ever been stereotyped in any way? I searched for my first job after graduating from high school applying for many respectful companies, and received a phone call for an interview appointment. After trying on my entire professional wardrobe and deciding for the perfect outfit, I punctually attended the interview where I got hired, but left disappointed. Finally after many interviews, I was hired to work for a prestigious corporation which I dedicated myself to that employer for many years. My new manager was like a vulture that was not satisfied until she got rid of my carcass. I never expected to be discriminated against by a new family member. He expressed his anger about my ethnicity. Some bad memories will stay with you forever.

I had just turned eighteen going to my first interview at Circuit City in San Bernardino, California. An older man in his late sixties was the manager of the warehouse. He happened to be the one who was conducting the interview. He asked me are you going to be able to carry a big television set to a customer’s car. Since it was my first interview, of course I replied yes. He brought his chair closer and said, “After an eight hour shift you are going to be sore in your legs”. After his remark he then rubbed my legs with his hands and continued talking. He then went on to say” sometimes you are going to get bruised from your chest”. Then in a quick moment his hands were on my chest. I rolled down my eyes and automatically he moved back. Soon after he handed me a sheet of paper to see my schedule letting me know that I had gotten the job. I felt so strange after the situation but I never returned. However he continued to call my home and left messages for me to call him. I never returned that call and soon I received a card saying “thank you for applying at Circuit City in San Bernardino”. I continued the search of my first job.

My new retail manager was looking for a schedule in our retail office at that time next to the gift shop. She asked me if I had seen it since I was the retail supervisor. I had replied to her that I had not. The longer it took for her to find it, the more frustrated she got. She got so mad that she put her hands around my neck and began to shake me. As she turned around to look, she then found what she wanted. However she never let go of my neck while beginning to laugh hysterically. I had to physically remove her hands from my neck meanwhile telling her to let go for several minutes. As she released her hands from my neck she quickly left the office where we were. I went to talk with the director of human resources about what had just occurred. My manager admitted what she had done to me. Not much later in time after this situation happened, I was brought the human resources again. This was put together by my manager and I was informed that I was no longer an employee of the company. Now that I think about that was how I looked at after eight long years of loyal employment with Agua Caliente Casino.

After several years of not seeing my mother- in-law we went to visit. We had not ever met her new husband. While we were there he seemed to be extremely nice until one moment came about. He was making carne asada and some chicken. I was talking with my daughters in Spanish and he over heard me. As he walked back into the house he made a comment to me “no Spanish in Texas”. I felt out of place and sank to the bottom of the seat. Even though I was with my husband and children it did not take that awful feeling that was in my stomach.

I have always heard stories of things like these but never experienced them for myself until now. Through these negative experiences I have learned to be a stronger person. I only hope that my daughters learn from my examples. Life has many forks in the road and each of us takes the one that we feel is right. Remembering what has occurred in the past for the future forks in my road will be my success.

Happy Returns

The paragraph discusses about how insultive it can be when returning a gift. it's written point-by-point. In my opinion when some one gives you a gift it's easier to say thank you than to return it back. When I give a gift I try to buy something the person would like and give them a gift receipt with it to exchange it if they don't like it. If is a gift for someone I don't know I give them a gift card to be on the save side.

Shopping in Pajamas

This paragraph is about the difference between, online shooping and regular shopping in department stores. It's witten in block style. Many people like to shop in department stores wering pajamas. When others prefer to shop on the internet.

Indy 500

This essay is about the different driving styles between a mother and son. It is written point-by-point organization. It's an interesting story if you relate to it. Many mothers are always worried when their sons or daghters star driving, because they now accidents happend more often by young drivers, but you will be amazed after reading this paragraph.

Yin and Yang

In this paragraph the yin is the movement male and the yang is the pause female. it is written point-by-point.The "yin" represents the female or shaded aspects of the synbol such as the earth, darkness, and passivity. The "yang represents the male aspects of the symbol, such as light, sun, and activity. Written in "PATTERNS PLUS" by Mary Lou Colin.

Dogs and Cats

Konrad Lorenz tells us what our dogs and cats have in common and how they differ. Cats and Dogs are the only animals allowed in our homes. They are both carnivores. The paragraph is interesting to all individuals who like this animals as pets. The orgnization is point-by-point.In my home we have two dogs, two cats and fifteen fish. We love our pets.

Good Girl, Bad Girl

Two friends that are the opposite from each other. One was direct, Trustworthy, kind, and naive. The other manipulative, selfish, and clever. The bad girl always under estimated the good girl while the good girl talks good about her. This short story is organized point-by-point. I feel is not an interesting paragraph to read. Because a friendship relationship is vased on thrust and support from one another.

"Hush, Timmy- This Is Like a Church"

Here is a place that just breaks a person down the minute you close in. This very memorial is worth more than a thousand words. Those very names upon the granite stones is why we remember them dearly. Each name gave up their dreams so that we can complete ours. We owe them every effort to complete those dreams otherwise they wasted theirs. If you have ever seen the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial you will see exactly what I have explained to you. There are many places that you can enter and still be able to crack a joke here and there. This is not one of those places not because you want it that way but rather that it just gives off that vibe. Many feel that we waste a day on veterans day I politely invite those very people to the memorial in Washington to feel an outrageously great feeling when you look at the names that gave you your freedom. That walk across the grass, the sight of how many names there are what a sight. If you visit there and still have no positive feelings what took place in Viet Nam then please rethink why you have what you have. This place is a church for those who should be remembered and will be by many forever.

"Overindulgence"

The mouth watering after each bite from a well cooked meal. There is no other place to be then in my mother's house after she has prepared a meal. The smell is so inviting that you just head towards the kitchen just to see what is that great smell. I know that I should just eat a small taste of what she has prepared however that seems very impossible. After the first plate is finished I end up with another serving. I say that its a weakness yet when I look at it that would be untrue its a heavenly great pleasure to have.

My View of Two Sports

The sports world and the great impact it has. No one really understands what the sounds of the fans cheering and announcers yelling means. The sports and what impacts are made from the outcomes of these games played. However, you will see why people are so connected to each other through sports. Life has brought many sports to watch and participate in.

We choose who we cheer for and against. Much like boxing we all have our fighters we watch. Listening to the sounds of the music that plays as each boxer enters the ring. You can feel the power of some fans cheering for or against one boxer. As the bell rings and the announcer telling the tape on each one your heart pumps faster. As a fan you seem to be more connected then you realize. You find that all of a sudden you're the fighter and every move he makes is questioned by you. When the sound of the punches echoes in the arena you cheer louder. The blood that flows down the face of hopefully not your fighter after each punch they take. Not knowing who is really winning the fight. You feel the excitement of the fight as it goes on. You see many people with the flags that represent the country the boxer is from. Amazing how much pride each person has for the boxers. The fan base has made its connection with that person regardless. It's amazing that we feel overwhelming joy or sadness if they win or lose. Boxing is a sport that keeps you watching, wanting, and waiting for more. To have no idea what punch or round will end the fight keeps people around to watch. Boxing and football are two sports similar is physical appeal however, different in how it's played.

Football has an appeal that really allows me to watch. Since I enjoy boxing so much and all that hitting, football is the same in some ways for me. I found that they pull in much of the same fans and get the same reaction. I cheer for my team as each pass is thrown and caught. I take a deep breathe as each field goal is attempted for a win. In football i watch the game with passion because I am just waiting for that running back to break one to the outside and go 80 yards for the touchdown to win. The excitement that you have no idea who will win and what play will make the difference. This is an American sport being watched everywhere. The fans are from the entire world. People are connected to one another just based off what team they like. The impact of that similar bond goes a long way. Football has a fan base larger than ever expected. Its players come from all walks in life and because of that it brings hope that everyone can do it. What a great impact that makes as the connection between different people bond closer.

The sports annoucers connect with the fans on each given moment. Announcers give us the link between fans, the team or individual we cheer for and the athlete themsleves. We feel the connected to them and so as they do, we do. The great impact it has. This is how we the world live connected with one another through sports in some ways.

"The Wreck"

I can relate to this very story at some point. I at an early age experienced a very extreme car accident that a dear friend was involved in. She was a very peaceful yet smart, polite person. Life all changed with the sight of the car accident for all of us. Yet we all knew that she was heading to heaven just as the story said about the gentlemen in the story. Just one car accident has many effects good and bad to everyone. Weather knows no limits and has us in many different situations everyday.

"The Ravine"

After I finished this story it was amazing that we as kids all have a special place we liked to play. As I went on reading I saw small pieces of the past. It took me back to the big trees that we played in. At times it seemed like we lived in them with the amount of time spent playing there. Life has it silly lessons that we learn as we grow as children to adulthood. Quincy Scott's story took me back to that moment that we all quickly forget about when we become adults. The very place that I played as a child I now see me own children playing there now.

"The Hiroshima Museum"

In this very story about the Hiroshima Museum you could feel the pain that occurred that very day. Just the fact that there was no editorial comments on the exhibits says a lot. It let me know that words could not explain what happened nor did it have to. I mean what you really have to write about that very moment that people did not already know. The exhibits explained themselves with ease and the sadness filled the museum with a hush throughout. All that had changed in Hiroshima after the bombing and the impact that it took. We now find ourselves visiting museums just for this reason that there is life that has past and we move on.

"A Perfect Dog"

After reading the story I found that a perfect dog is rare. He happened to find a dog that after bringing him home in a cardboard box behaved better then imagined. He taught him commands that were executed with ease. Shaun was a dog that could be considered more a friend then just a dog. Riding in the car on family trips was enjoyable for Shaun watching the world pass as he looked out the window. I always hoped to find a dog that would have such a personality that Shaun did. What a pleasure it must have been to have a dog like Shaun.

Family Vacation Hawaiian Style

I felt the rumble and vibration of the plane's engines as it descended through the light grey clouds. Lowering its landing gears,as it took a brief glance out the window which brought much pleasure. Our arrival to Kona Island,Hawaii was as if we landing in paradise. Taking that first step off the plane I heard a most relaxing sound. A delightful sound of the ocean waves crashing against the rocks. Looking out towards the blue sky and the clear blue water as if there was no division between the two.

While we were driving around we could see a souvenir shop on each corner. Everyone was welcomed with "Aloha" which means "Hello" as you entered. It gave you a pleasantly warm, fuzzy feeling inside. All the locals were in shorts and tank tops to take in the sun. Even the children were playing in the sand or surfing the waves. It was as if there were no worries and everyone was stress free.

A light breeze moved the branches of the palm trees and allowed the sun light to illuminate the island. Not to forget the sand softly beneath my feet as we took our walks in the sunsets. Watching the sun slowly disappearing you could feel the breeze cool the air with a light mist. Heading back to the hotel, you would see tourist wearing their Hawaiian print clothing. Many were excited to experience the extravagant Hawaiian dancers. To see the mid-dress outfit's the dancers were wearing with their solid fit bodies. The dance with fire provided an excellent show to the public.

Getting ready to eat was like a picture you saw in a magazine. Food was displayed in such a passionate manner. The pork was cooked to perfection in a pit covered with dirt all day for all the guests. When serving the pork, it had honey glaze that just made your mouth water. The pork melted in your mouth with each bite, which taste was like sweet candy with the stomach asking for more. The beverages were refreshingly cold and made from all the fruits of the island. Pineapple.s were golden and extremely juicy, perfect to make smoothies. Each drink decorated with freshly slice bright red strawberries, sliced golden yellow pineapples, and mini umbrellas.
With the next morning upon us was a beautiful sight of the orange-red sunrise. Looking out on the balcony, I smelled a delightfully pleasant fragrance coming from the flowers that surrounded the island. My mind was taking in the moments as it was filing the beauty that lay right there in front of my eyes. It was colorful as if the rainbow was all around. Our unforgettable moments made us realize we were in Kona, Hawaii.
